Presillas

There is no doubt that it gets hot in August, but it’s also true that in Madrid the heat is less intense in August. And it seems that at the end of July, everything is lighter in the city, and it is a real pleasure to be a tourist and get to know everything that Madrid has to offer. But for our visitors that choose to spend their vacation with us in the city, there are other options beyond the city center where they can enjoy themselves surrounded by nature and only a few kilometers away.

The best alternatives for a day trip outside the city are the various natural areas in the mountains surrounding Madrid: both the mountains to the north and the northeast offer beautiful landscapes (Navacerrada, Guadarrama, El Escorial and the outlying towns), and in addition to the urban centers with their own rich history, you can find the increasingly more famous natural swimming pools for those that want to cool off. What pools are available and where do we find them?

Pools of Riosequillo (Buitrago de Lozoya). This is one of the largest pools in the Community of Madrid since it has a surface area of 4,500 square meters and can hold 2,000 people (official maximum capacity). This area not only includes the pools, but also green spaces, sports areas and playgrounds for children.

Riosequillo

Las Presillas (Rascafría). Located in Valle del Paular, this area has large green meadows as well as a large swimming area with three pools. Without a doubt it is the perfect spot to enjoy a summer picnic.

Las Dehesas (Cercedilla). Located in Valle de la Fuenfría (in the municipality of Cercedilla) together with the remains of the Roman roads. With 755 square meters in perfect condition with restrooms, changing rooms, a bar and a medical station, everything is in place to enjoy this spot’s natural swimming pools.
