Paseo del arte de Madrid: un placer para los sentidos

Madrid’s museum mile is a one-of-a-kind enclave located on the Paseo del Prado, in the very heart of the Spanish capital. Here, visitors from all corners of the world have the opportunity to discover the legacy left by history’s most illustrious painters all mere feet away.

The Museo del Prado is one of the most highly-acclaimed art galleries in the world with a collection of 4,900 Spanish masterpieces, 7,600 paintings and 1,000 sculptures.

Las Meninas by Velázquez, the Maja by Goya and Jardín de las Delicias by Bosco await you here. However, if you prefer European art, we recommend you begin at the Thyssen which offers a unique collection with works from the English, German and Dutch schools and Italian primitivism, in addition to extremely high quality Impressionism and Expressionism.

Lastly, lovers of modern and contemporary art should not miss the Reina Sofía, the most important avant-garde museum in Spain, home to Picasso’s renowned Guernica, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.

If you already have your sights set on an autumn-winter getaway, mark the following exhibits on your calendar: the paintings of Cai-Guo Quiang made using gunpowder (from October 25, 2017 to March 4, 2018 at the Prado), the Picasso and Lautrec special at the Thyssen (from October 17, 2017 to January 21, 2018) and the NSK exhibit, new Slovenian art during the last decade of Yugoslavia, at the Reina Sofía (from June 28, 2017 to January 1, 2018).
