Museo Sorolla Madrid

Joaquín Sorolla is one of the most important Spanish painters from the period between the end of the 19th century andthe beginning of the 20th century. Fortunately, you can view many of his paintings at the Sorolla museum in Madrid.

The museum is located in the Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid at calle General Martínez Campos, 37 in what was his family home. It was founded in 1932 on the initiative of his widow and has been state owned since 1973.

The museum has an extensive collection of the Valencia-born painter’s works, providing you with the opportunity to contemplate the various artistic stages of his life. The museum boasts close to 1,300 paintings attributed to Joaquín Sorolla. In addition to the paintings, there are also drawings, sculptures, furniture, textiles and photographs.

Because the museum was originally a home and workshop, effort has been made to preserve the original structure as much as possible. Thus, to access the various rooms in the home you must pass through a garden. We recommend you visit the Andalusian patio.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and is closed on Mondays. The Museum’s hours are 9:30 AM to 10 PM Tuesday through Saturday and 10 AM to 3 PM on Sundays. In addition, the museum is closed on local and Christmas holidays and May 1st.

General admission is €3, however admission is free after 2 PM on Saturdays and on Sundays. In addition, there are certain days of the year when admission is free and various groups are granted free admission or receive discounts.

Sorolla in his Paradise exhibit

The Sorolla in his Paradise exhibit gives us access to the painter’s photographs. The exhibit runs from July 4th to October 1st at the Museo Sorolla in Madrid. It is a wonderful opportunity to understand the artist from this perspective.
