During the summer, Madrid offers a vast number of cultural activities for all audiences. Visiting exhibits and museums is one interesting option.

Periodically, the Caixaforum has exhibits and, currently, it has an exhibit related to competition in ancient Greece.

In ancient Greece, the concept of competition was ubiquitous. In the first place, as in all cultures, competition was associated with war and the exhibit contains statues and friezes with a warrior motif, evoking passages from Greek mythology.

Secondly, ancient Greece is the birthplace of the Olympic Games, in which the Greeks participated. It was during this era that sports were contrived as a way of resolving differences and which, until the end of the 19th century, did not have a global reach.

You can visit the exhibit at the Caixaforum building in Madrid at Paseo del Prado, 36. Its central location makes it reachable by foot in a matter of minutes from the other museums in the area. If you want to take the subway, the Atocha station on line 1 is your best option and if you would like to take the bus you can take lines 6, 10, 14, 26, 27, 32, 34, 37 or 45.

This exhibit has busts, sculptures, friezes, receptacles and gold articles on display. The main theme is the concept of competition, focused above all on sports. These items are housed in the British Museum but you can view them in Madrid this summer.

The exhibit is open to the public from July 14th to October 15th in Madrid. Opening hours are Monday to Sunday from 10 AM to 10 PM and admission is €4.
