Ven a disfrutar de la Semana Santa en Madrid

Madrid is one of the most emblematic places to visit in Spain. In addition to the tourist attractions which can be visited year-round, there are always marvelous activities going on. During Holy Week, which occurs at the end of March this year, the city turns into an icon of these sacred festivities, with hundreds of activities. Don’t miss out!

What to do in Madrid during Holy Week

During the week there will be several very famous religious processions and floats paraded throughout the city’s center, such as the Cristo de Medinaceli which occurs on Good Friday. With a throne weighing 3 tons and measuring just over 13 feet high, the procession will take you from the Las Letras neighborhood, from the Puerta del Sol where our hotel is located, to the Paseo del Prado. In fact, from our balconies you can watch the entourage pass by to the rhythm of cornets and drums.

Although the Nazarene procession is the largest in Madrid, throughout the entire city you can see numerous floats around the main parishes, such as those of the Almudena and San Francisco de Asís. If you have already had the chance to see these, to enjoy Holy Week to the fullest, you can also visit those of the city’s neighborhoods that date back hundreds of years, such as the Silencio in the Las Letras neighborhood.

In addition to religious processions and floats, Madrid serves wonderful food throughout the year that you don’t want to miss. During this time of year, you must try some delicious Spanish-style French toast or torrijas a dessert which was originally made in the country’s convents from stale bread, eggs and milk, to which we will be dedicating next week’s post.
