Madrid is one of the most influential cities when it comes to celebrating Pride and it will be no less influential in 2018. After last year’s categorical success, this year’s edition of the LGBT community’s festival is celebrating its 40th anniversary in the Spanish capital and promises to put it in the international spotlight once again.

Activities you won’t want to miss at Pride in Madrid

Pride will officially begin on Wednesday, July 4th, however in the days leading up to the 4th the neighborhoods most active during Pride, Chueca, Malasaña and Lavapiés, will be holding events in the streets to start setting the mood. The concerts will begin on June 29th and, from then, the activities will continue until the grand finale on July 8th.

One of the most eagerly anticipated days is July 5th since that is when the emblematic High Heel Race will be held on Calle Pelayo, at 6 PM. On the following day, the 11th edition of Mr. Gay Pride España will be held. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to participate.

However, if you don’t want to miss any of the party, the key place to be is the Puerta del Sol. That is where the best concerts will be held. They are completely free and, icons of the gay community, such as Marta Sanchez, have participated in the past. In addition, its location makes getting around from here to other areas of the city quite simple.

That said, the big day is, without a doubt, Saturday, July 7th. A massive march that brings together members of the LGBT community from across the globe in memory of the Stonewall riots and to demand equal rights and visibility for the community will be held on the 7th. The march will begin at the Atocha train station at 5 PM and will continue along the Paseo del Prado, through Cibeles and will end, as is customary, in Colón.
