Madrid Pride 2019

Madrid has been recognized as one of the most emblematic cities for its LGBT Pride festivities after its successful WorldPride 2017. It is a unique celebration that commemorates diversity and the first worldwide demonstration for the rights of this group. The festivities include various activities in the Chueca neighbourhood, which gets filled with flags and garlands.

This year, the Pride Proclamation will be led by singer Mónica Naranjo who stated that she wanted to take a stand, because today “more than ever equidistance is no good”. The speech that will begin the celebrations will take place in the Plaza de Pedro Zerolo at 20:50h today July 3.

Tomorrow, July 4, in Pelayo Street at 18:00h you won’t be able to miss the twelfth heel race. It is a sporting and festive event that consists of running with heels up to 15 cm high. The winners will receive prizes ranging from dinners for two people to a total of 350€ in cash. If you want to participate in this race, you can sign up at the following bars in Chueca: LL Bar (Pelayo, 11), A Different Life (Pelayo, 30), SR Fetish & Leather Shop (Pelayo, 7) or The Paso Bar (Costanilla de Capuchinos, 1).

The Madrid Gay Pride Parade is considered the central act of Pride. Organised by COGAM (Colectivo de Lesbianas, Gays, Transexuales y Bisexuales de Madrid) and FELGTB (Federación Estatal de Lesbianas, Gays, Transexuales y Bisexuales), this year’s theme of the parade is Seniors without Closets: History, Struggle and Memory! In it you can find the institutional or collective carriages, those directly linked to the LGTB collective, and finally those of companies that are committed to this initiative. The start is at 17:30h from Paseo del Prado near the Botanical Garden, with the departure of the first carriage at 20:15h. Join in the celebration of diversity!
