Madrid is a culturally extraordinary city with unique exhibitions and tributes such as Lorca 2019, its activities continue to surprise its visitors and residents. At the beginning of 1920 Salvador Dalí, Federico García Lorca and Luis Buñuel, who formed part of the creative atmosphere of that time, met in Madrid. Madrid City Council has prepared a tour of the secret corners of this generation of intellectuals.

The route begins with the Student Residence, on the famous Colina de los Chopos, where the renowned Spanish artists lived and shared. The Student Residence was inaugurated in 1910 and was a legendary place for artists of the 27th Generation. It was also an important place for science, as forums were held with great figures such as Marie Curie and Einstein, among others. Today, you can visit and enjoy a bedroom as it was when these three famous men where there.

In the second half you can enjoy the artwork of these artists who have left their mark on the Spanish culture of the 20th century. In the Reina Sofía Museum you will be able to see an important collection of Dalí’s works, including the Face of the Great Masturbator as well as some drawings by Lorca and the famous film in which Buñuel and Dalí collaborated, Un perro andaluz.

Theatre and social life were also an important part of these artists. Dalí and Buñuel were known for their love of jazz and both were regulars of the Rector’s Club on the ground floor of the Palace Hotel. Near this hotel you can also visit, from Tuesday to Friday morning, the Spanish Theatre where Lorca premiered Yerma in 1934; and which in 1964 hosted a production by Don Juan Tenorio de Zorrilla with sets by Dalí.
