Retiro Park is the main green lung in the center of Madrid and, in addition to having extensive areas for walking, a lake where you can take a boat ride and places to rest, during the spring it has a very attractive cultural agenda. In this post we will discuss the marionette shows organized for the littlest ones in the family by Madrid’s City Council.

This year the season opening of the Teatro Municipal de Títeres de El Retiro once again coincides with the arrival of spring, at the end of March, and the theater is offering shows every weekend, specifically on Saturdays and Sundays at 12 PM.

The theater’s schedule includes everything from classical tales, such as Pinocchio, to stories in verse by Roald Dahl in which he adapts and rewrites popular fairy tales, such as Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood, to give them unexpected endings. The shows selected emphasize positive and educational subjects and seek to ensure that both boys and girls feel equally capable of dealing with situations and have the self-esteem to achieve all of their goals.

The shows are aimed at children aged five and older. Shows are free of charge and are located in the park on Avenida de Mexico, 4, very close to the entry to the park on Calle de la Independencia in front of the Puerta de Álcala.

If you would like to give your kids a break from cultural visits to museums and architectural monuments during your trip to Madrid, this is a great option. Springtime temperatures are ideal for enjoying the shows and then taking a pleasant walk with the family through this marvelous park.
