Dalí, Duchamp y Magritte: los revolucionarios del siglo XX en Madrid

Until July 15th, the Palacio de Gaviria, which is located just a few steps from our hotel in the Puerta del Sol, is offering a retrospective entitled Duchamp, Magritte, Dalí: Revolucionarios del siglo XX (Dalí, Duchamp and Magritte: The Revolutionaries of the 20th Century. The exhibit pays homage to three artists who changed the art scene during the 20th century.

Thanks to the Italian company Arthemisia you can enjoy more than 200 works from the Arturo Schwarz Collection that are on temporary loan from the Israel Museum. The collection includes works by Dalí, Magritte and Duchamp, as well as by fantastic artists such as Calder, Man Ray and Picabia.

Among the works included in the exhibit, the following are of particular note Le Chateau De Pirineo (1969) by Magritte, Ensayo Surrealista (1934) by Dalí, LHOOQ (1919-1964) by Duchamp, and Main Ray (1935), by Man Ray. The exhibit also includes works from artists like Ernst, Tanguy, Calder, Picabia and more.

An Unbeatable Backdrop

The Palacio de Gaviria is a monument in and of itself and deserves a visit if you enjoy art, history and architecture. Designed by the architect Aníbal Álvarez Bouquel at the end of the 19th century for the Marquis of Gaviria, it has 13 Renaissance-inspired rooms decorated with beautiful frescoes by Espalter and Rull.

Practical Information

You can visit the exhibit every day of the week without interruption. On Friday and Saturday opening hours are from 10 AM to 9 PM and from Sunday to Thursday opening hours are from 10 AM to 8 PM. Tickets are €13 and include an audio guide that explains the historical context and artistic relevance of the works on display.

You can buy your tickets at the box office up until one hour before or on the exhibit’s website. If you like unique art that changed the way we thought in the 20th century this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.
