Ruta de Shopping II: Malasaña

Plaza Salesas

A few days ago we took you through our first shopping route near our hotel (Callao and Gran Vía) and, as promised, today we will continue with our own “Madrid shopping guide” through another one of the most representative neighborhoods, especially since the “hipster” has taken over our streets and is more in fashion than ever.

For those who are more alternative, those that set the current style with dresses at the knee, closed necklines and ankle socks or shirts buttoned all the way up, thick beards and plastic-framed glasses, for them Malasaña is without a doubt the place to find their treasures that are both current and retro at the same time. It doesn’t matter whether they are new or used, what they’re really looking for is to find unique treasures that are far from the big-name companies or well-known designer brands.

What they are looking for and value most is anything different, unique and exclusive, and without a doubt the stores of this typical neighborhood in Madrid have become leaders in trends, offering and providing them with this type of fashion. Streets such as Corredera Baja de San Pablo, Pez, Espíritu Santo, or other adjacent streets are full of stores that seem to be taken from other eras, maybe from the 1950s, but more dusted off and updated than ever… And it seems that after a more lofty modern era, we now want to go back to earlier times, to something that makes us feel more at home or with a more “personal” flavor.

Regardless, if this is your style, Madrid is your city and Malasaña is the neighborhood that you should not miss on your visit here. Fashion, comic books, decoration, hair salons, barbershops, etc., everything in this neighborhood is Hipster and will surely meet your expectations. Even ordering a soft drink, or should we say a Linda lemonade, will take you back to the 1950s.
