Pza Mayor Navidad

If Christmas is synonymous with booths and special gifts, Madrid has the most beautiful and welcoming markets. On a sunny day in December you can’t miss a stroll through the main square of this marvellous city, which for years has become a tourist attraction for the holidays. Here, if you are lucky, not only will you see brides getting married in one of the buildings, but also one of the oldest Christmas fairs.

Since the nineteenth century the Plaza Mayor was established as the place for the Christmas market where fruits and vegetables were purchased, in addition, the sale of turkeys, nougat and sweets. Later, in 1980, the first stands were placed, promoted by the Plaza Mayor Christmas Market Association which still remain as the main points of the market.

This year the market has 104 stalls where you can find all kinds of Nativity figures, typical Christmas musical instruments, toys, Christmas decorations and prank toys. Don’t miss the opportunity to compare special gifts in the city’s most iconic square!

The festivities are not just about Nativity Scenes and Christmas decorations. If more traditional pieces are your strong point, Antiques, Art Galleries and Collecting Fair returns to the Madrid Fair with more than 12 thousand objects. From 11 to 15 December, vintage lovers will have the opportunity to enjoy decoration, archaeology, painting and other items. From trunks, chairs, mirrors to desks: here vintage lovers can enjoy a wide variety. You will also buy art from different artists. To get to the exhibition at the IFEMA from our hotel, you must take L8 on the subway to Feria de Madrid. Take a souvenir from Madrid’s most festive Christmas in your suitcase!
